3. Write your opinion on social networks in language learning into the comment to this blog. Are you already using a similar site? Why? How often? With what results? What can a person learn/acquire through a social network? Do yo uconsider trying it? With what language?

Indeed those sites are helpful to those who are not really familiar with a language and would like to get better at it. I personally use Duolingo to get better at russian and it works quite well. A person can meet new people (native speakers) from foreign countries, I consider speaking to a native speaker to be the best practice.

My approach is generally that if I'm about to get some basics of a certain language, the first thing I'm gonna' do is look for sites like those.

I'm already using duolingo to learn/remember my German language skills. I'm using it everyday to do the task I set up. Everyday I see that I'm getting a little better. It's a good site even for the kids to learn new language, I would recommend it for others. I'm not against leatning like this, so my approach is possitive, because I'm using it and I see the results.

Considering the conversation with a native speaker the most useful way to pick up a language I totally agree with this new approach of learning. It is quite easy to get in touch with people you wouldn´t meet otherwise. Frankly speaking, I would rather speak face to face but I saw some apps (like Conversation Exchange)give you the opportunity to meet speakers, of the language you are looking for, who live nearby. That would be my favourite way.

  6. I think learning through the social networks is a great idea and it shows the potential of our generation. It might be too optimistic, but I believe in the near future we will not need schools and all of the learning will be done through the internet.

Speaking for myself, I have a profile on the site called Penpals.net where you can bascially find people from all over the world and exchange e-mails or letters with them. I think about 2 years back I wrote to a few people and even exchanged a few emails with a girl from Norway and a guy from Chile.

Those sites are helpful for sure. You can make same image of the language you want to learn first. You can start as a begginer. Personaly for me the best way to learn is to look at some grammar first by myself and then I would be happy to use one of those sites to expand my vocabulary.
Every person has a different expectation of these sites so I would not say which one is the best. But I would choose Duolingo.

If I were to choose one of these sites I would probably go for Duolingo. For me it seems quite nice and easy. It is easy to orientate on the site and visualy it is well done. Other sites seemed to me a little bit too colourful and overdimensed with effects and animation. I find this rather disturbing when I need to learn, therefore the plain look and straightforwardness of Duolingo is the most suitable for me.

I also like the divison into certain categories. It is the best way to learn the basics of the language when you are a beginner.

I have to admit that other sites like English, baby! or Conversation Exchange might be better for advanced speaker to get even better and more fluent.

  9. Social learning websites are in my opinion a great way to learn something new, maybe even a new language. It is a great, active and entertaining way of learning.
You can arguably learn more that from a common textbook, as you are learning from living human being that is speaking defined language everyday. I dare to say that no native speaker is speaking in a way that textbook can teach you.

I have used Duolingo in the past to learn and revise my skills for maturita. It was great way of learning without the boredom of learning alone.

For me this is the future. No maybes or buts.

I already tried using duolingo in the past but I got bored of it very quickly. I think it's a good way to learn some basics of a language but it is important for the person to be really interested. In that case I think it is an enjoyable way of learning languages.

I think it is the best option to learn languages from native speakers or websites, if you have the chance. I'm personally using duolingo and it makes the learning more fun, so I fully recommend it.

These sites are certainly interesting and for someone really useful. But for me, the only useful site was Duolingo. I have used this application before to enhance my skills in Russian and the results were surprising.

Such sites are excelent for natural learning of language. It provides more advanced users with an option to have common conversation about everyday issues on a similar level as the have in their native language, and also new ways to learn the language from scratch in less abstract ways than learning in school, although it might be difficult to grasp grammatical rules this way without proper explanation.
