Space and Colours, or Applied Psychology

TASK 1
Read the text on  Colours in the classroom.
Compare its graphics with this article.
Focus on fonts, colours, layout.
Which of the texts is easier to read+comprehend? Which is easier to navigate? Which offers more consistent information?

TASK 2
Look at several professionally designed, information oriented web sites - e.g.

Observe how they use colours and layout.
List your suggestions of do's and don't's into the comment to this blog entry.

Summary of required skills:

you should be able to

  • recognise and respect (use) the effect of various colours (shades, space, intensity) on human brain
  • apply columns/table formatting in html or doc to use the space wisely
  • effectively combine texts and relevant illustrations
TASK 3
  1. Open nvu or any web editor you prefer.
  2. Focus on your moodle topic. Collect at least 8 items of different type (you can use those you already have)  - text paragraphs, headlines, images, links, graphics (arrows etc.).
  3. Organise these items into a html file, getting as much info as possible into a single screen: the user/reader should be able to access as much material as possible without the need to roll down.

Tips:
Insert a table to keep full control about the layout.
Each row/column/cell parametres can be edited separately (right-click on the borderline to get the menu).
Use different font sizes and colours wisely.
