Computer versus Human Brain

1. Questions to consider:

What are the capacities, advantages and disadvantages when comparing human brain a and computers?

2. Draw a scheme of a standard computer architecture. Can you see some similarities to the architecture of a human body? Which? Why is it so?

3. Fast poll - who are you? A computer-

  • addict
  • geek
  • user
  • survivor
  • hater

4. The future - brainstorming activity

In groups of 4, discuss the possible development of computer technology within 30 years. List the major expected changes. Share your list in the comments to the blog entry. Time: 15 min.

5. Websearch

Find some reliable information about the science and current progress in developing AI. Share the links in the blog comments. Deadline - before the next lesson.

  3. The main topic we discussed was virtual reality and artificial intelligence. Currently the humanity is focusing on developing on virtual realities. Within 30 years, the virtual reality should advance to the point where we should be able to use it to transfer ourselves to different worlds of choice, where we will be able to do anything we are able to do in real world (e.g. we will be able to taste the food in the virtual world, feel pain etc).

When it comes to artificial intelligence (AI), at the moment it's able to learn by itself as long as it is given directions by the creator of the AI, and it is able to perform simple tasks. However, it's not uncommon for the AI to make a mistake (e.g. it recognizes a frog as a cat). Within 30 years, the AI will be able to learn by itself without the help of human. The AI will also be able to make decisions by itself depending on the situation as well as do large amount of work that humans are able to perform that it previously wasn't able to (e.g. postman will be now be a robot who will deliver packages to you).

  4. 1) better virtual reality + motion control
more refined, less external invetions to help people to be in virtual reality = augmented reality
    2) new medium "to go" to transfer media/files/etc.
    3) robotics - making robots for work, newer and more fluid and complex

  6. Increase in self-learning capabilities, possibility in delegating the more complex task to AI, increase in everyday availability, Direct connection of AI and the human brain - chips. Significant increase in the simplicity of use. Computer technology will become more commonplace. Increase dependency on computer technology. Malfunctions will be much more lethal.

  10. -There would be holographic PC on the wall and we could write on the holographic wall. They also will recognize you’re voice and unlock or turn music on, or call somebody when you say it to it.
-maybe they won't even be computers at all, and it will just be a device, that will project all things on display in front of us in 3D space,.
    - Computers will start thinking by themself scary
-advanced use of computers in medicine? yeah some robots that could perform surgeries on their own
-monitors will be very thin and everything will have a touch screen
